Music is to sooth your mind, music is to enjoy, music is to be loved and music is to be revelled in.
I know that now-a-days the most popular singers are the teenage celebrities who seem to have stolen the hearts of adolescents. The new songs have taken the crowds by rage. While some love EMINEM aka Slim Shady and the rap duos he produces with Rihanna, the others go for Taylor Swift’s country song, which- admit it or not- are always about her numerous lovers(sappy!) The first thing about the 21st century pop culture that bugs me, is the huge fan following commanded by Justin Bieber. The Biliebers started with a group of teenage girls and has now expanded into a voracious fandom of gigglers who worship Bieber: their overlord. This Bieber love fest seems to have toned down since his party and booze addiction had the paparazzi tainting his persona. (Sorry about the Bieber rant.)
Avril Lavigne, Beyonce, Enrique have always been real crowd pleasers and so has Lady Gaga. These are the pop and R&B songs, ‘the party in the U.S.A songs’, the D.J songs and the beats maybe dance-worthy but incomparable to the endless world of classic rock. So, the second thing that bugs me is how classic rock has been pushed and prodded to the shadows.
Ever since I picked up the genre ( courtesy supernatural), I knew I was in for the long haul. My i-pod had Kesha, Gomez, One direction and I know what a beginner I was! As I delved into the world of AC/DC and Nirvana, I began to adore what I heard. The entire genre was so unexplored and as I dug more, I found the likes of Creedence Clearwater and Supertramp. The 70s and the 80s produced some of the most scintillating songs. So many songs had nothing to do with love, they were more about life or about death or about a particular day (obviously I am not a fan of love songs.) The music can not be put into words, you have to listen to understand the fascination. I pull the plugs on if I want solace or avoid what my mom is saying- so almost all the time. Today my ringtone is Bonjovi’s- Livin on a prayer and I wake up to George Thorogood’s –Who do you love?. I hope you listen to Classic rock songs and find the joy that I did.
